MALACCA, Dec 10 ― The mixed doubles pair of Goh Liu Ying and Chan Peng Soon are determined to stay in the world top five throughout next year.

Goh said they hope to get the best result in every tournament to win points in the Badminton World Federation Championship (BWF).

She would try to minimise chances of injury during training to ensure she would be able to perform at her best at every tournament.

"There are many tournaments next year especially in November and December. Taking part in the tournaments is a form of training to boost our performance.

"I hope to train and reach a good performance level for the Olympic Games,” she told a media conference here today.

Earlier, Goh received a service apartment worth RM658,476 from Jaya Mapan Group at The Green, Kota Laksamana here.

Chan received cash RM30,000 in appreciation of their effort in winning the silver medal at Rio Olympics in August.

The handing over ceremony was done by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and it was also attended by Jaya Mapan Group general manager Pang Swe Haw.

Based on the latest BWF ranking, Goh/Chan are fifth in mixed doubles in the world with 67,060 points.

South Korean pair Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na are number one with 80,420 points.

Asked about the apartment she obtained, Goh said she would move into the apartment with her parents.

"Definitely, my family and I are happy with the gift, it will boost my spirit to continue to endeavour to bring honour to Malaysia,” she said. ― Bernama
