MADRID, Dec 9 ― Raphael Varane was burgled after he forgot to set his house alarm as he was playing for Real Madrid in the Champions League, Spanish police and media said today.

The defender was on duty for Real against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday as thieves made off with a haul of luxury watches, cash, jewellery and clothes worth €70,000 (RM328,250), El Mundo said.

No alarm went off because the 23-year-old Frenchman had forgotten to activate it, the newspaper said.

Varane, who scored a goal in the 2-2 draw, has filed an official report, a police spokesman told AFP without giving any details of the burglary.

According to El Mundo, robbers broke into the player's house at around the same time as Real Madrid kicked off at their Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

The club and player have declined to comment on the incident. ― AFP
