Liu Ying hopes to lift Puchong United Badminton Club to new heights

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — Rio de Janeiro Olympics mixed doubles silver medalist Goh Liu Ying hopes to use her vast experience to lift Puchong United Badminton Club to new heights by winning the Purple League 2016/17.

Liu Ying, one half of the mixed doubles pair that won the silver medal in Rio, will see action in the Purple League.

"This will be the second time I am competing in the Purple League. I certainly hope to help Puchong United Badminton Club to emerge as the champion although competition will be stiff.

"To me, what is important is to play as a team, and ensure all players give their best in every match,” Liu Ying was quoted in a statement issued by the organisers today.

In the Purple League however, Liu Ying would not be partnering Chan Peng Soon, since he would be playing for Muar Badminton Club.

Apart from Liu Ying and Peng Soon, a number of National players who had represented the country at the Rio Olympics, like Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Goh V Shem (Petaling Badminton Club) and Tan Wee Kiong (BU Dragons Badminton Club).

The 2016/2017 Purple League would be played at the Gem In Mall in Cyberjaya from Dec 12 to 31 and Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium in Cheras from Jan 2 to 8.

The knockout stages of the league would be played at the Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands from Feb 9 to 13. — Bernama
