KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Naza Corporation Holdings (Naza) will reward Malaysian athletes who clinched gold medals at the Rio Paralympics 2016 with a Kia Sportage vehicle each, according to its chairman and chief executive officer SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin.

"I’m very proud of our Malaysian Paralympians who will be bringing their gold medals home,” said the Paralympics Council of Malaysia president in a statement today.

"Being a homegrown company, Naza will reward our homegrown Malaysian athletes who win gold at the Rio Paralympics 2016 with an All-New Kia Sportage each,” he said.

Thus far, Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi has won the first gold medal for Malaysia in the men’s 100m T36 dash and Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli added the second with a new world record in the men’s shot put F20 event.

Mohamad Ridzuan clocked 12.07 seconds to erase the old Paralympics record of 12.25s set by Roman Pavlyk from Ukraine at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

Malaysia’s second gold was delivered by Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli with a new world record in the men’s shot put F20 event.

He hurled the iron ball 16.84m in his fifth attempt to erase the old world record of 16.29m set by Todd Hodgetts of Australia at the London Paralympics in 2012.

In fact, Ziyad had already set a new world record in his very first attempt, with a distance of 16.40m.

SM Nasarudin said the gold medallists had not only inspired other athletes but all Malaysians.

"Our Malaysian Paralympians have shown their mettle despite the odds and this is how we show the spirit of Malaysia Boleh!,” he said. — Bernama
