MELAKA, Sept 10 — An Umrah tour package and visit to Old Trafford, the bastion of the Red Devils, are among the rewards awaiting players of Melaka United, the newly-crowned Premier League champions.
Melaka United team manager Datuk Mohd Yusuff Mahadi said the visit to Old Trafford was a reward by its sponsor, Mamee Double-Decker while another donor contributed the umrah package for the team.
"Other rewards from the state government would be announced by Melaka Football Association president Datuk Seri Idris Haron, who is also Melaka Chief Minister.
"A million thank yous to all contributors and supporters, players, coaches as well as Melaka United officials for lifting the Premier League title,” he told reporters here last night.
He was met after Melaka United drew 1-1 with Johor Darul Tazim II at Hang the Jebat Stadium in Krubong here, which saw Melaka United collect 49 points to emerge champions of the league with a seven-point advantage over nearest challenger PKNS FC who have two more matches in hand.
Meanwhile, Melaka United coach Mohd Zan Mat Aris said one more point was enough to earn Melaka United promotion to the Super League next season.
"Despite the draw with JDT II, we are Premier League champions,” he said.
He said JDT II played well in the first half but in the second half his boys bounced back to score a goal to lead the match.
However, he said a lapse by the defence and goalkeeper gave JDT II an easy goal in the dying minutes to equalise. — Bernama
