PETALING JAYA, Sept 1 ― Malaysian head coach, Datuk Ong Kim Swee will continue to guide the national team as long as the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) requires his services.

Although the position of the 46-year-old coach is often disputed by some, Kim Swee said he would do his best to prepare the squad for the AFF Suzuki Cup in November.

"I got a job. For me, I don't have to think who is the FAM's president. If the president wants me to stay, I'll stay...if he doesn't want me to stay I'll go. As simple as that,” he told reporters at Wisma FAM, today.

Rumours have spread saying that the position of Kim Swee and the B-22 squad coach, Frank Bernhardt, could be affected as the FAM leadership election will be held next year.

Meanwhile in another development, Kim Swee had chosen the Johor Daruk Ta'zim (JDT) attacker, Mohd Amri Yahyah as captain for the national team to face the international "A” against Indonesia on Tuesday.

"I've talked with Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin (team manager), we appoint Amri and he will be assisted by Baddrol Bakhtiar and Khairul Fahmi Che Mat. We know Amri is a consistent senior player with the national team.

"He also has the characteristics of a leader that is important. He also has experience as a captain when Mohd Safiq Rahim was injured,” he said.

Although Amri is now 35 years old, Kim Swee said Amri was one of the senior players who consistently scored in the national team. ― Bernama
