KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 ― The National Futsal League (LFK), which was initially scheduled to be held in March or April but postponed, will now be held in January next year.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee Chairman Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi assured the LFK would be held as scheduled although a new sponsor was being sourced after the withdrawal of Felda as the main sponsor.

"The delay of the LFK was not intended but due to Felda’s withdrawal as the main sponsor after having sponsored the league in the past. The withdrawal threw a spanner in our plans and the committee had no choice but to postpone it to January 2017.

"The league will go on even if no new sponsor comes in. To me the LFK will go on even if it means using FAM’s own money,” Mohd Yusoff who is also the National Futsal team manager told Bernama, today.

Meanwhile, Malaysia have been drawn in Group B for the Asean Futsal Championship to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from Oct 31–Nov 8.

Malaysia who have emerged as runner-up in the competition three times before, open their campaign against Myanmar, Laos, Singapore and Indonesia while defending champion Thailand head Group A with Vietnam, Brunei and Timor Leste. ― Bernama
