KUCHING, July 25 — Minor injury on her finger, suffered during a training a day before the event, does not prevent national diver, Loh Zhia Yi, from defending her gold in the Women’s Platform category at the Aquatic Centre, here.
The 19-year-old diver from the Federal Territories contingent collected 289.55 points to win her 8th personal Sukma gold, after securing five in the 2012 edition in Pahang and two in Perlis, two years ago.
"I am a bit disappointed as I did not perform a better dive... I had only applied ice to treat the injury and will only able to check it properly with the medical officer after I get back to Kuala Lumpur,” she told reporters.
Zhia Yi will take part in the Women’s 3m springboard in a mission to add more medals to her collection, this Wednesday, the last day for diving events.
Meanwhile, two young divers from the host state, Kimberly Bong Ping, 13, and Eilisha Rania, 11, each obtained Silver and Bronze, respectively.
In the Men’s 3m springboard synchro, a couple from the host state, Sylvester Peter Jawa/Carlyse Chan Wee Cheik won gold after recording 352.92 points, while Sabah’s pair, Jellson Jabilin-Gabriel Daim, took the Silver (285.30) and Selangor with Ikhlas-Ahmad S. Lail/Farez Izzudin, grabbed the Bronze. — Bernama
