Mixed doubles pair Chan/Goh through to Australian Open semis

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — National mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying continue their smashing performance after advancing to the semi-final of the Australian Open Super Series Badminton Tournament held at the Sydney Olympic Park Australia today.

The seventh seeded pair defeated China's pair of Liu Yuchen and Tang Jinhua in straight sets (21-15, 21-1).

They will meet Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong in the last four tomorrow, who had stunned their fellow compatriots the fourth seed, Liu Cheng and Bao Yixin in a straight match of 21-9 and 21-16.

Independent pair, Koo Kien Kiat and Tan Boon Heong who stunned the top seeds Mohamad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia yesterday, failed to march on after losing 18-21 and 18-21 to another Indonesian pair Berry Angriawan and Rian Agung Saputro.

Malaysia did not send representatives in the women's singles event of the tournament which offer total prize pursue of US$750,000 (RM3.043 million). — Bernama
