SHAH ALAM, April 6 — World number three Datuk Lee Chong Wei lived up to expectations by cruising into the second round of the Malaysia Open Badminton Championships after beating Takuma Ueda from Japan, 21-11, 21-8 in straight sets.

His second round opponent will be South Korea's Son Wan Ho who disposed local hopeful Goh Soon Huat 21-16, 5-21, 21-13.

"The last time I met Son Wan Ho was during the Sudirman Cup last year. To me, Wan Ho's performance is good...in the Indian Open, he beat Lin Dan of China in the quarterfinals," said Chong Wei who had suffered early defeats in to consecutive tournaments recently.

Chong Wei who had reached the All England final several times, lost to India's B Sai Praneeth in the first round of the All England championships last month and last week lost to Hong Kong's Wei Nan in the India Open.

"If based on ranking, I have already qualified for the Olympics in Rio, but what is important now is to be seeded. I must therefore be physically and mentally strong to face my opponents here, even if they are young players," he said. — Bernama
