GEORGE TOWN, March 11 — The return of star attacking player Faiz Subri has given Penang a much needed boost ahead of their clash against Kelantan today.
Coach Jacksen Tiago said the striker was fit for the Super League in Kota Baru after being sidelined for nearly three weeks due to an ankle injury.
Faiz got injured during Penang’s 4-2 extratime defeat to Kuantan in a FA Cup second round match on Feb 20.
“With Faiz returning from the injury, I will have more attacking options,” said Tiago, of the player who received the M-League Player of the Month award for February on Wednesday.
Tiago hopes Faiz’s personal achievement would be a morale booster for the player and the team.
The Panthers league campaign has been dismal this season as they have five points from four matches after winning once, drawing twice and losing once.
Meanwhile defender Brent Griffiths, who has resumed full training after recovering from a hamstring injury, could miss the East Coast trip while midfielder Mohd Fauzan Dzulkifli has yet to recover from an ankle problem.
On the Kelantan match, Tiago said the players would rectify “errors” committed during the 1-1 draw against Perak last week.
“Kelantan, although a good team with huge experience and financially strong, can be beaten,” he said,
Penang and Kelantan are joint fifth in the league, but the islanders have a better goal difference.
