National shuttler Jing Yi looks to world junior Jin Wei to bolster senior ranks
Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 — National women singles player Tee Jing Yi does not consider world junior champion Goh Jin Wei a threat but a positive development for Malaysian badminton.

She said the success of Jin Wei is good for women’s badminton as the national team is short of good singles players who can do well on the international stage.

“I am happy for Jin Wei’s success in winning the world junior title. I hope that she can join me in prestigious tournaments such as the Super Series,” said the Penangite.

Jin Wei: Happy to have met her target to reach the final.

Jing Yi had beaten Jin Wei in straight sets 21-14, 21-10 to win her fourth title at the National Circuit Final at Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara today.

Jing Yi has won the title in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Jin Wei, 15, said she was dissapointed for failing to land her first national title but was pleased with her performance throughout the season.

“Despite losing in the final match, I’m happy at meeting my target to reach the final,” said Jin Wei, who is also from Penang.

She hopes to break into the world top 15 in five years but admits she has to improve her game to reach the senior level. — Bernama
