KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 — The recent doping case is not a reflection of the Malaysian bodybuilding scene, Malaysia Bodybuilding Federation said.

Secretary Kamaruzaman Kadir said with two more cases added to the Anti-doping Agency of Malaysia (Adamas) this year, the federation will make sure their athletes are tested before competitions.

Sazali Samad, who was seen coming out of the federation disciplinary board hearing yesterday, has been confirmed by sources to be the athlete who failed an out-of-competition doping test to treat an injury earlier this year.

A press conference will be held next week where Sazali will be held accountable to explain his actions.

“The exact date has yet to be confirmed but it will likely be on the 21st or the 23rd,” said Kamaruzaman, adding he was disappointed another bodybuilder was found positive for doping.

“Whether or not it was negligence doesn’t matter, it comes down to proper education on the matter and he (Sazali) should have known better.”

Kamaruzaman said the federation will look into education programmes regarding doping soon.

Adamas and the National Sports Institute have been working with federation to screen bodybuilders for the last 15 years in and out of competitions.

He said getting the help of these organisations have been essential in ensuring athletes do not slack off and use integral methods to win.

“The federation will discuss the way forward, perhaps we will look into penalties for the association or coaches,” he said.

“It’s not just the responsibility of athletes, but also the relevant parties.”
