Jing Yi emerges runner-up in Indonesian International Challenge

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — Top national women’s singles player, Tee Jing Yi emerged as the runner-up in the 2015 Indonesian International Badminton Challenge at Dewan Badminton Sudirman, West Java, Indonesia.

In the final Jing Yi who was seeded third in the tournament, was shocked by the unseeded Gregoria Mariska from the host country in three sets, losing 15-21, 21-15, 7-21 in a match that lasted 50 minutes, according to the Badminton World Federation website www.bwfbadminton.org.

As champion, Mariska collected US$1,500 (RM6,385) while Jing Yi took home US$760 (RM3,235).

The 24-year-old player is expected to take part in the Thailand Open Gold GP in Bangkok from Sept 29 to Oct 4.

Earlier, national men’s singles and doubles players were knocked out in the preliminary round of the challenge which offered US$20,000 (RM85,140) as total prize money. — Bernama
