PETALING JAYA, Aug 7 — Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) coach K. Dharmaraj warned his players against complacency ahead of their encounter against Sapura in the Tenaga Nasional Berhad Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) Premier Division today.
Despite disposing double champions Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) 6-2 in the opener last Sunday, Dharmaraj insisted it was nothing more than a morale boosting victory.
“There’s nothing to shout about. We must put it aside and focus on Sapura,” he said.
“Sapura have improved. The addition of Izad Hakimi Jamaluddin, Faiz Helmi Jali and Marhan Jalil from TNB and a few Pakistanis show their intent.
“I saw them play the other day ... we need to make sure we don’t gift them chances like how we did against THT. Then, we were fortunate we made the most of our chances.
“THT had more scoring opportunities. They had nine penalty corners but couldn’t make use of them. I won’t dare say we were superior.”
Dharmaraj’s men dominated the MHL from 2010-2013, until big spending THT upset the order last year.
KLHC beefed up their squad with six Pakistani imports this season, and with specialist penalty corner flicker Razie Rahim onboard, the club hope to snatch back the league and overall titles.
Sapura, guided by national coach Tai Beng Hai, defeated UniKL 2-1 in their opener on Sunday.
