KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Former F1 test driver and 2009 Renault 3.5 World Series vice-champion Fairuz Fauzy is excited Kuala Lumpur finally has a street race but disappointed it was not hyped up.
Despite hopes the Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix lives up to its promise for the next five years, Fairuz said the organisers needed to keep the public better informed.
“This is a great way to promote the country and the sport but it needs to be organised properly to avoid hiccups,” said Fairuz.
“For future races, the organisers must promote the race better and spread out information throughout the city to avoid any inconvenience.”
Fairuz hopes the public would support the race and allow it to mature in coming years.
For Fairuz, the GP brings back memories of the Formula 3 race in Macau in 2004.
“That was my last street race. It will be different here as our streets are wider but the excitement is the same,” he said.
“I’m going for bust. I want to be the first GT Cup (headline race) winner. Furthermore, it’s in our backyard and racing in front of home fans is always entertaining.
“It will be an open affair because it’s a new experience for all the racers. There are stretches to overtake but we need to be careful with some of the corners.”
Fairuz, who drives a Lamborghini Gallardo for OD Racing Team, is confident of his chances.
