KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — Malaysia’s diving pair of Pandelela Rinong Pamg and Leong Mun Yee kicked off their campaign on good notes in their quest for Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games ticket at the World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia, today.

In the preliminaries of the women’s 10m synchronised platform event held at the Aquatic Palace, the duo settled in third position after accumulating 311.04 points.

With a consistent display in their five dives, Pandelela Rinong who have not partnered Mun Yee for quite sometimes advance to the top 12 final.

The pair was reunited after Cheong Jun Hoong was ruled out of the world meet when Jun Hoong sustained an injury on her heels after hitting the springboard while training in Guangzhou, China, the week before the team left for Kazan.

Defending champions Liu Huixia-Chen Ruolin of China topped the preliminaries with 330.24 points, while Meaghan Benfeito-Roseline Filion of Canada in second position with 313.26 points.

The event finals are scheduled to be held at 7.30 local time (12.30 midnight Tuesday Malaysian time). — Bernama
