SINGAPORE, June 9 — Malaysia's domination in the diving events continued today when Ooi Tze Liang created his own history by winning his fourth gold medal of the Singapore SEA Games while Pandelela Rinong swept the final gold medal on offer in diving competitions which ended here today.
With Malaysia winning both the gold medals on offer today, Malaysian divers completed a clean sweep of all eight gold medals on offer in diving events, just like what they had done at the 2013 Myanmar SEA Games.
Tze Liang, 21, who had already contributed three gold medals before today's event, partnered Ahmad Amsyar Azman to claim the men's 3m Synchronised Springboard diving gold after collecting 409.56 points, 27.78 points more than Singapore's siblings pair Mark and Timothy Lee who gathered 381.78 points.
"Before the start of today's event I was a little nervous and tired but managed to focus on my dives. Overall I am happy with my performance and achievement because this is my best achievement in three SEA Games appearances," said the diver from Penang.
Tze Liang said after the SEA Games, he would continue his training in China to prepare for the World Diving Championships next month.
Meanwhile, Pandelela led a 1-2 finish for Malaysia in the women's 10m Platform after collecting 353.00 points while team mate Loh Zhiayi managed 305.25, well ahead of third placed Freida Lim from Singapore who could manage only 251.70 points.
Apart from sweeping all eight gold medals, Malaysian divers also won three silver medals to become the highest contributor of medals to the Malaysian contingent. — Bernama
