SINGAPORE, June 9 — National sailing head coach Mohd Afendy Abdullah expressed disappointment over the quality of judging at the Singapore SEA Games sailing events held at the Singapore National Sailing Centre, here today.

Mohd Afendy who is also the National team manager said the referee from the host country was bias and had imposed high penalty points on teams from other countries, including Malaysia, which affected the country's gold medal quest.

"I am disappointed with the high penalty points imposed on other sailors but sailors from the host country were awarded only minimum penalty points.

Officials from other countries are also unhappy," he told Bernama when met here today.

Mohd Afendy therefore urged the organisers to be more professional in the judging process to ensure fair play.

In today's competition, Malaysian sailors won a gold, two silver and a bronze medal.

After two days of competition, Malaysia has two gold, two silver and one bronze medal.

"I am confident that our sailors can meet the five gold target. The wind conditions today was very good," he said.

Young sailor Nur Shazrin Mohamad Latif sailed away with the Girl's Laser Radial Under-19 gold medal after accumulating 13 penalty points but Olympic sailor Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy and his sister Khairunneeta had to be contended with silver medals from the Men's Laser Standard and women's Laser Radial.

The bronze medal was contributed by Mohd Akiyuddin Mat Zaki, Mohamad Faizal Norizan and Syed Ahmad Syahmi Hilmi through the Fleet Racing Keelboat event. — Bernama
