SEA Games: Malaysian coach full of praises for wushu team

SINGAPORE, June 9 — National wushu head coach Lim Yew Fai was full of praise for his charges after a sizzling performance on the final day of wushu events in the 2015 SEA Games.

He said, younger exponents like Aggie Cheah Ruey Shin and Chan Lu Yi had showcased true grit and determination to achieve their best performance despite making their debut in the biennial games

“I’m happy and surprised with our younger exponents who had shown good progress. I’m also quite surprised that we finally managed to claim two gold medals on the last day of wushu competition,” he told reporters after the conclusion of wushu events at the Singapore Expo Centre, here, yesterday.

“I’m happy with the gold medal that we won in the women’s duel event — bare hand because we normally focused on the individual events,” Yew Fai added.

The national wushu squad finally ended their gold medal drought after three days of competition when Loh Jack Chang struck a gold medal in the men’s compulsory taijiquan in the evening session before Lu Yi, Ruey Shin and Audrey Chan Yee Jo clinched another gold medal from the women’s duel event-barehand.

The wushu team’s two gold, three silver and four bronze medals in the 28th edition of the SEA Games was however, a drop compared to the three gold, five silver and nine bronze medal haul at the 2013 Myanmar SEA Games. — Bernama
