SEA Games: Malaysia's netball team soars with solo training

SINGAPORE, June 5 — The netball squad showed an outstanding performance, but many would never have thought it was due to the “individual” training style of its players.

The eye catcher and squad shooter, Izyan Syazana Mohd Wazir, said each of them lived in different parts of the country which prevented them from training together.

“Some of us lived up north, some south and a few in Kuala Lumpur, so it was hard for us to train as a team.

“We trained on our own and just got together a month before the Games.

“However, based on our teamwork and spirit, we managed to beat our foes since day one. We haven’t lost so far,” said the Penang lass.

The team emerged with another victory when they trounced Thailand 71-32 at OCBC Arena.

With the win, the girls will play in tomorrow’s semifinal against Brunei.

“We are targeting gold. Even though we trained on our own, we wanted to be the regional champions.

“We worked hard for this and the team will conduct brainstorming sessions each night to discuss how to improve ourselves.”
