SINGAPORE, June 3 — Malaysia’s high-scoring netball squad hopes to maintain the momentum to remain at the top of the leaderboard before the semifinal stage.
Malaysia beat Brunei 82-24 at the OCBC Arena today, with Norashikin Kamalzam (goal shooter) scoring 69 of the goals.
With the win over Brunei, Malaysia has three wins and a draw from four matches, scoring 313 goals compared with 92 conceded.
The only draw was against arch rival and gold medal contender Singapore, who face Myanmar tomorrow. “I hope we can maintain our high scoring act against Thailand tomorrow. We need to continue performing at the highest level to remain at the top,” national coach Aminah Asaari told Bernama.
Based on the round-robin format of the preliminary competition, the top team will face the fourth-placed team in the semifinal while the second-placed team will take on the third-placed team.
“I hope we can meet Singapore in the final,” she said. — Bernama
