National mixed pairs shuttlers stopped short at China Masters quarterfinals

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — Two national mixed doubles were shown the exit by China’s pairs in the quarterfinals of the 2015 China Masters in Changzhou in China today.

Tan Aik Quan/Lai Pei Jing lost to top seed Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin 19-21, 18-21 in 36 minutes.

The 2013 SEA Games bronze medallists nearly stunned the homesters in the first set when they drew level at 18-18, but fell 19-21. The duo tried to fight back in the second set but the world number four pair sealed the match at 21-18.

Compatriots Tan Chee Tean/Shevon Lai Jemie fell to unseeded Wang Yilv/Tang Yuanting 11-21, 13-21, the Chinese taking a mere 29 minutes to dispose of the Malaysian world number 51 pair. — Bernama
