PARIS, April 14 — Prize money for this year’s French Open has increased by €3 million (RM12 million) to more than €28 million (RM112 million), the French tennis federation announced today.

The winners of the men’s and women’s singles titles at the May 19-June 7 Grand Slam event will each pocket €1.8 million, €150,000 up on last year, out of a total pot of €28,028,600.

The most significant rise in prize money — more than 20 per cent — comes, as it did in 2014, for the losers of matches in the second round, third round and quarter-finals, the federation added.

In comparison the season-opening Australian Open’s prize money was €27.5 million, with 2.13 million for the singles winners.

Wimbledon last year offered a pot of €30.43 million with €2.14 million for the victors and the US Open €28.1 million, with €2.2 million going to each of the men’s and women’s champions. — AFP
