SUBANG JAYA, April 12 — Selangor will form a government-linked company to oversee sporting facilities in the state as it does not trust local councils and district offices to maintain them.

“We cannot depend on them anymore. Stadiums require funds which these units lack,” said state executive councillor for sports Amirudin Shari.

“We need a specific body, like in Johor, Malacca or even Malaysian Stadium Corporation with the technical expertise to maintain and monitor such facilities.

“I’ve announced this at the state assembly and it should be up and running in a couple of months,” he said.

Last week, Mailsport highlighted the deplorable condition at the multi-purpose complex in Kuala Kubu Baru.

Tennis, basketball, futsal and multi-purpose courts looked ready to be condemned while the road leading to the courts at the back of the complex is covered with undergrowth.

The only facilities in good condition are the badminton complex and hostels.

Separately, Amirudin reiterated the hockey stadiums in PJ and Pandamaran, would be ready for use by year-end.

Pandamaran was declared unsafe in 2010 while the PJ Stadium has been in dire need of upgrading for 12 years.

Meanwhile, Selangor agreed to change its 2016 Malaysia Games battle cry after being told off by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The Sultan of Selangor slammed the use of #KitaLawan as it is used by jailed opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s supporters.
