KUANTAN, April 8 — Pahang have signed young Australian football player Matthew Davies to bolster their defence for their remaining matches in the Malaysian League.
Davies, 20, said the decision to join Pahang was made after sought the advice of former Australian players Alan Davidson — who played for Pahang — and Anthony Milicic.
The Perth-born player said that Malaysia is not a foreign country for him as his mother is a Sabahan. His father is Australian.
He was thrilled after seeing Pahang beat Penang 2-0 in the first FA Cup quarter-final match at Stadium Darul Makmur here yesterday.
Pahang head coach Zainal Abidin Hassan said Davies will start training today to gel with his teammates before making his debut in the next match.
“We hope Davies can give maximum impact to the Tok Gajah squad and improve weaknesses to face the remaining matches,” he told reporters after the match against Penang yesterday.
On the match, Zainal Abidin said his players had shown a high level of discipline and did not make many mistakes towards the end.
“Although we missed many goal-scoring opportunities, we managed to keep a clean slate. It’s very important that we get the advantage to face the return-leg match in Penang,” he added.
