KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — BA of Malaysia (BAM) technical director Morten Frost has revealed all coaches in the national body will stay until 2017.
“They will receive a two-year contract from April. Either party can give three months’ notice if they want to end the contract earlier. The contracts are also subject to review every six months,” the Dane said after BAM’s executive coucil (exco) meeting yesterday.
Rashid Sidek, Tey Seu Bock, Jeremy Gan, Rosman Razak, Wong Tat Meng, Pang Cheh Chang and Tan Kim Her were on monthly contracts after their original tie-up expired at the end of last year.
“The exco agreed to the proposal on salaries which will be finalised next week. The target for the players will be same for the coaches. It’s all about results.”
Frost confirmed more coaches will be hired in the coming months while others will be moved.
“We will need three to four coaches for the Bukit Jalil Sports School. “I’m in favour of local coaches and believe the knowledge should stay in Malaysia. There will also no longer be a chief coach as I want a flat structure.”
BAM president Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff, who chaired the exco meeting, said he wanted the national body to function “like a Ferrari”.
“We are happy with what Frost presented to us. We will also look into the players’ welfare, contracts and other areas we can improve on.
“We want BAM to be built like a Ferrari and be a top three force in world badminton by 2020.”
