KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 ― Claire-Louise Jedrek is back and she is hoping to burn up the track for the Malaysia Championship Series (MCS).
“There were some nerves in my rookie year last year, but I have had incredible support not just from Singapore but especially from Malaysians,” she said of her racing in the then-Malaysian Super Series. She finished seventh.
“What’s great about racing in Malaysia is not only is it accessible, but there is so much talent here and people really understand motorsports.”
The 31-year-old Singaporean extreme sports personality added motorsports has always been difficult, particularly with the economic slowdown in Asia.
“To me, every season is the last season but I will work hard to make it to the next,” she added.
MCS is being held in conjunction with the Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix where Jedrek will race for the R Engineering team using a Honda FD2 car.
“My Malaysian competitors look at me as a race driver not as a race driver who is female. We have a lot of mutual respect for each other,” she said.
Jedrek also wears other hats - she is writer, presenter, race commentator and fitness instructor. In between, runs marathons regularly,
“I race with one of Malaysia’s best teams, R Engineering under the eye of Lai Wee Sing and they have the ability to run better cars,” she said adding it is up to her to improve her skill sets.
As a woman in motorsports, she said she hoped to serve as an inspiration and motivation to other women so they can chase a “seemingly impossible dream or interest”
The beauty also doled out a piece of advice to others of the fairer sex who wanted to race professionally.
“Put yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to talk to people involved and ask questions,” she said.
“Malaysia has a huge motorsports community which makes it accessible and the barriers of entry are low. If they want to have a chat, send them my way.”
