Malaysian girls duo take diving bronze at Dubai World Series

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 — National women’s diving pair Leong Mun Yee and Cheong Jun Hoong today grabbed the bronze medal at the FINA Diving World Series 2015 held at Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Malaysian pair amassed 315.18 points in the women’s 10m synchronised platform event on the first day of the tournament.

Last week Mun Yee and Jun Hoong took silver in the women’s 10m synchronised platform in the first round in Beijing.

The official website www.fina.org said the Malaysian duo were in fourth position after the first two dives but stepped up in the next attempt to move into medal contention. In the last two optional attempts, they maintained their consistency, scoring 72.96 and 73.92 points to claim bronze, 2.46 points ahead of Lara Tarvit and Melissa Wu of Australia.

Chen Ruolin and Liu Huixia from China won gold on 324.66 points. Glasgow Commonwealth Games champions Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion of Canada won silver with 321.27 points.

Jun Hoong will compete in her second event, the women’s 3m individual springboard, tomorrow while national diving sensation Pandelela Rinong will compete in the women’s 10m individual platform on Saturday. — Bernama
