Malaysian women’s hockey team thrash Singapore 5-0

NEW DELHI, March 10 — Malaysia thrashed Singapore 5-0 in their final match of the first round in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) World League Round 2 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here today.

With the win, Malaysia finished top of Pool B and will face Ghana in the  second round of the tournament.

The Malaysians hardly faced any resistance throughout the game where the Singaporeans were mostly forced to hold up in their own half.

The Malaysian side scored two goals in the first half and added three more in the second.

Fazilla Sylvester Silin scored a hat-trick today while the other two goals came from Rabiatul Adawiyah Mohamad and Nurul Nabiha Mansur.

Fazilla had netted one goal each against Kazakhstan and Russia. Malaysia’s national coach Mohd Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim said although he expected his team to score more goals, he was nevertheless happy with the performance of his charges, having topped the group.

On the match against Ghana on Thursday, Mohd Nasihi was upbeat that the Malaysians should not face much problem to qualify for the semi-finals.

Seeded second in the tournament after hosts India, Malaysia are likely to face Poland in the semi-final.

Malaysia are in Pool B with Russia, Kazakhstan and Singapore while India, Poland, Ghana and Thailand are in Pool A. — Bernama
