PETALING JAYA, Dec 30 — The Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia (PFAM) has urged the Perlis Football Association (PFA) to quickly settle the outstanding wages of players since June.
PFAM chief executive officer Izham Ismail said the association has not ruled out the possibility of referring the issue to court or to the attention of FIFA and the World Players Union (FIFPro).
He said 12 players from Perlis were not happy with the PFA’s proposal to settle only the salary for the month of June and not pay the salary of the players from July to November.
“PFAM feels the proposal is not fair and the PFA is not honouring the contract of the players. The 12 players are not in favour of the terms put forward by the PFA deputy president on Sept 11,” he told reporters at a cafe in the Setiawalk Mall, Puchong, here today.
Also present at the cafe were PFAM president Hairuddin Omar and Perlis captain Mohd Khairi Zainuddin and a number of players.
Izham said the PFAM had also referred the matter to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Players Status Committee on Nov 12 but have yet to receive any response.
Mohd Khairi said the PFA should not have faced any problem in settling the salary of the players because their wages only range from RM3,000 to RM7,000 unlike the high wages paid by other teams in the M-League.
“Some players are also considering early retirement from football due to problems faced by players, especially when it comes to salary. Some are facing very serious financial crisis because they have to take care of their families without salary for six months,” he said. — Bernama
