PETALING JAYA, Sept 5 — The fate of national rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin in the Moto3 competition will be known in October following a streak of inconsistent performances in the Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) this season.

Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer, Datuk Razlan Razali however said SIC was still positive with Zulfahmi’s performance and his motoring career was still bright.

“We discussed the matter last week. We will continue to support Zulfahmi in motorsports but he needs to improve his performance in the remaining races this season.

“He is still the best rider we have, so I will use his track record to determine his future next year,” he told reporters after opening the Shell Advance Malaysian Mototcycle Grand Prix 2014 at Soju, Sunway, here today.

At the ceremony, Razlan said three national Moto3 racers namely Zulfahmi, Amirul Hafiq Azmi and Hafiza Rofa (wild card) as well as two national Moto2 riders, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman would be the focus at Malaysian MotoGP from Oct 24 to 26.

Meanwhile, Zulfahmi when met said, he was determined to put up his best when in action in front of local fans at the Sepang Circuit next month.

Commenting on his performance this season, the Ongetta-Air Asia rider said he needed the cooperation of his team to overcome his weaknesses in the remaining races.

“The races this season were difficult compared to two years ago when I was trying to be in the top 15 but I cannot give any more excuses.

“Actually we have identified the problems faced by the team, just a little more time to put up the best strategy at the qualifying and race day,” Zulfahmi said. — Bernama
