GLASGOW, July 29 — National cyclist Mohd Fauzan Ahmad Lutfi is striving to not just put the opposition behind him at the Glasgow Commonwealth

Games, but also the trauma of a road accident last month.

“I still remember that moment when my car went into a spin as I tried to avoid an overturned lorry lying diagonal at Km247 of the North-South Expressway near Seremban.

“I am grateful to have received just light injuries as a result, but still suffer anxiety attacks when recalling that moment,” he told Bernama.

Mohd Fauzan, 28, was returning home to Kuala Lumpur with his wife after attending a breaking-of-the-fast event with the Malaysian National Cycling

Federation (MNCF) in Melaka when the accident happened at 11.30 pm.

The lorry driver was killed in the accident and Mohd Fauzan’s departure to Glasgow on July 22 was delayed as a result of it.

Fauzan now carries Malaysia’s challenge in the road race event of the Commonwealth Games together with Loh Sea Keong.

Mohd Fauzan and Sea Keong will see action on July 31 in the individual time trial followed by the road race on Aug 3.

On his readiness for the races, Mohd Fauzan said his cycling momentum was very different after the accident.

“I can feel the difference. But with the support of my coach, I have been steeling myself to put the accident behind me in training here,” he added. — Bernama
