SUNGAI PETANI, July 10 — The Malaysian Indian Games (Sukim) 2014 being held at AIMST University, Semeling from today to Sunday will showcase talented Indian youths.

Sukim 2014 chairman J. Dhinagaran said the inaugural event is held as many talented Indian youths did not have the chance to participate in major sporting events.

“A good example is the Malaysia Games (Sukma) recently. Sukim can be a platform for talented Indian youths to show what they can do.

“Organised by the Malaysian Indian Youth and Culture Foundation, Sukim 2014 is participated by 10 states,” he told reporters last night.

Some 700 participants are expected to take part in five events namely; badminton, tennis, squash, karate and football.

Dhinagaran said Sukim is open to those under 33 years old.

“The foundation had successfully organised an international sporting event for Indian youths.

“Sukim 2014 also received support from the Youth and Sports Ministry. We

plan to have swimming, cycling, hockey and athletics in future,” he added. — Bernama
