Rain delays second day at French Open

PARIS, May 26 —Rain delayed the start of the second day of action at the French Open today.

Play was due to get under way at 0900GMT (1100 local time) but organisers pushed back the start to 1000GMT (1200 local) at the earliest.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal was due to start his bid for a ninth title against US veteran Robby Ginepri on the Suzanne Lenglen court.

On Philippe Chatrier court, 2012 women’s champion Maria Sharapova was facing Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan with men’s second seed Novak Djokovic tackling Portugal’s Joao Sousa. — AFP
