Germany coach Loew dreams of World Cup final — against Italy

BERLIN, May 6 — Germany coach Joachim Loew has admitted to dreaming of guiding his team to the final of the upcoming World Cup and also trumping Italy on football’s biggest stage.

In an interview to appear in Thursday’s Stern daily newspaper, Loew said: “We’ve still never beaten Italy in a World Cup.

“But I’m 100 percent sure that one day we’ll beat them. And it would naturally be better to do that in the final.”

Loew said that come final kick-off on July 13, “my most cherished desire is to be on the sidelines of the Maracana stadium”.

Germany’s last outing against Italy in a major tournament was in the semi-final of the European Cup in 2012, when the Italians won 2-1. — AFP
