PETALING JAYA, Jan 22 — Sometimes the winners are less satisfied than the losers.
That was the case after Police defeated fellow Premier League side SPA Putrajaya 1-0 in the FA Cup first round at the PJ Stadium yesterday.
Police only broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute after Ashfaq Ali put the ball past Mahathir Mohamad with a free kick.
Coach Dollah Salleh, in his first competitive match since joining Police from Malaysia Cup winners Pahang, was far from satisfied with his side’s performance as compared to his counterpart Shah Alias Norbit.
Dollah could not even take any positives from the match apart from the scoreline.
“Most importantly we won but that’s all the positive from here,” said Dollah.
“I’m not satisfied with the performance. There was no style in our play. A lot of tightening up needs to be done.
“The midfield was not functioning, defence gave too much space and the strikers were losing balls easily. I just hope this win gives them a boost ahead of the league opener against Johor Darul Takzim 2.”
Dollah was unsure of the extent of skipper Muslim Ahmad’s head injury as he was taken away in an ambulance.
Meanwhile, Shah Alias was optimistic ahead of the league match against UiTM after seeing his side hold their own against Police.
“It’s sad to be knocked out but I am satisfied with the team’s performance.
“We didn’t concede a field goal and had chances of our own, which we couldn’t finish. Comparing the unknown players we have to Police’s notable players, we held our own.
“I believe we can go on to collect all three points on Friday,” said Shah Alias.
In other evening matches yesterday, Perlis defeated Malacca United away 2-1 while another away side T-Team held on to their lead to win 3-2 despite a late comeback attempt by UiTM.
