13 teams qualify for round 2 of FA Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — Thirteen teams moved forward to the second round of the FA Cup after beating their respective opponents yesterday.

They were Sarawak, Lions XII, Terengganu, Kedah, T-Team, Perlis, Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP FC), Pahang, Sabah, Selangor PKNS FC, Sime Darby and Felda United.

The 2013 Perdana League champions, Sarawak beat Penang 2-1 at the Negeri Stadium, Kuching.  Sarawak’s goals was scored by Alireza Abbasfard in the 76th minute and  Gabor Gyepes (99th minute), while Penang’s consolation goal was put in by Mohd Baser Mahamad in the 90th minute.

Last season’s Super League champion, Lions XII breezed through its first win after beating DRB-Hicom FC 3-0 at the Bishan Stadium, Singapore.

The host’s ruthless attacker Sufian Anuar shot in the opening goal in the 27th minute followed by mid-fielder Gabriel Quak adding another one in the 53rd minute.  Faris Ismal clinched the win for the Lions with a 90th minute goal.  

The Terengganu team achieved a comfortable win after beating the club status Shahzan Muda 4-0 at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium, Kuala Terengganu.

The turtle squad started off aggressively when its imported player Marcio Souza Da Silva set the pace in the 11th minute and Abdul Manaf Mamat kicked in the second goal in the 34th minute.

The host team continued to punish Shahzan Muda through Marcio Souza’s third goal at 41 minutes before mid-fielder Zairo Anuar Zailani finalised it with the fourth one in the 76th minute. 

Kedah also went through to the second round easily thrashing Kuala Lumpur 4-0 at the Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar.

The ‘green yellow’ squad’s goals were scored by Khairul Helmi Johari in the 58th minute, Mohd Khyril Muhymeen Zambri (65th) and Adam Grifith (67th and 77th).

At the Perak Stadium, Pahang had to battle hard against a resilient Perak before narrowly winning 5-4 on penalties after both teams were tied at 2-2 at extra time.

The other results were T-team defeating UiTM FC 3-2 at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam, Perlis beating Melaka 2-1 at Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka, PDRM beating S.P.A Putrajaya FC 1-0 at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium, and Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) FC trouncing Sabah football club, Cabagoo FC 2-0.

Sabah narrowly won 1-0 against Kuantan FA, Selangor PKNS won 3-2 against Johor Darul Tak’Zim II, Sime Darby upset Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) 2-1 and Felda United defeated Negeri Sembilan 1-0.

Last season’s champions and FA Cup runners-up, Kelantan and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) respectively, had a bye in the first round and will start their campaign in the second round on Feb 4.
