YANGON, Dec 15 — Malaysia’s shooting sensation Eddy Chew narrowly missed the gold medal in the men’s 10m Air Pistol individual event in the Myanmar SEA Games at the North Dagon Shooting Range here today.
The 18-year-old had to settle for the silver after his score was 1.7 points shy of that of the gold medallist, Hoang Xuan Vinh of Vietnam, who shot 199.7 points.
“The SEA Games is my biggest meet yet, I was feeling a bit nervous but coach Mohd Hashim Desa kept reminding me to focus on my own game and not think of the other competitors.
“After this I will go all out so that I can be selected to represent Malaysia at the Commonwealth and Asian Games,” the national back up shooter told reporters here.
He and compatriots Johnathan Wong and Choo Wen Yan also took the bronze in the team event of the same after collecting 1,701 points overall.
The Vietnamese trio of Tran Quoc Cuong, Hoang Xuan Vinh, Ho Thanh Hai took the gold after shooting 1,705 points overall while Gai Bin, Poh Lip Meng, Lim Swee Hon of Singapore had to settle for the bronze when their overall score was 1,703 points.
The Myanmar Games has been quite an outing for debutant Eddy as he had picked up the gold in the 50 metre pistol individual and team events. — Bernama
