GEORGE TOWN, Dec 7 — Datuk Lee Chong Wei is optimistic that back up player Chong Wei Feng can win the badminton gold medal at Myanmar SEA Games from December 11 - 22.

The champion said Wei Feng can reach the final despite the challenge from Nguyen Tien Minh (Vietnam), Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk (Thailand) and Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka (Indonesia).

“I am confident with Wei Feng's performance and quality of play in recent tournaments,” he told reporters after a meet the fans session organised by Samsung at Gurney Paragon, here today.

Wei Feng,26, is ranked 17th in the world and 15th in the single category.

Chong Wei advised the back up players to show strong fighting spirit and not to lose focus when facing opponents who have better ranking. — Bernama
