Hoon-Tan win Macau Open for first major career title

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 — Unheralded men’s doubles pair Hoon Thien How/Tan Wee Kiong made a major breakthrough in their playing career by winning the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold at the Macau Forum today for their first major title.

In the men’s doubles final, the young pair upset top seeds Tsai Chia Hsin/Lee Sheng Mu from Taiwan 21-16, 21-19, according to the Badminton World Federation’s website www.bwfbadminton.org.

World badminton superpowers China captured two titles in the open through the women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Fourth seeds Bao Yixin/Tang Jinhua edged Yu Xiaohan/Huang Yaqiong 21-17, 21-15 in an All-China women’s doubles final while Huang later partnered Lu Kai to beat South Korean pair Sol Kyu Choi/Yoo Jung Chae 17-21, 21-18, 21-17 to capture the mixed doubles title.

Son Wan Ho from South Korea ruled the men’s singles competition after beating Taiwan’s Hsuan Yi Hsueh 21-11, 21-15.

The women’s title went to India’s rising star P.V Sindhu who easily disposed Li Michelle from Canada 21-15, 21-12. — Bernama
