PETALING JAYA, Nov 28 — Selangor want Mohd Nazri Ahmad punished for breaching a contractual agreement with the Red Giants.
On Monday, the former Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) defender told Mailsport he had only reached a verbal agreement with Selangor.
However, Selangor are insisting it was more than just a verbal agreement.
Selangor filed a complaint with the FA of Malaysia (FAM) secretariat complete with documentation of Nazri’s signature on a contract and the transfer certificate obtained from JDT yesterday morning.
“FAM need to be stern in taking decisions. They need to punish players who sign contract with more than one team,” said FA of Selangor (FAS) deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad.
“This is the third time (coach B. Satianathan and forward Safee Sali being the other two) that we are caught in a similar situation. We settled the other two amicably but this (situation) can’t go on.
“Some of them are claiming ignorance but it’s not a valid excuse. As a professional, the players and officials have a duty to know the regulations.
“State FAs who are in doubt of a player’s status should get in touch with the relevant FAs to establish the status.
“FAM should also look into tightening loopholes in the contracts. The areas in which players could buy one year of their contracts could be better defined,” said Mokhtar.
Selangor’s case would be decided when the status committee meets on Dec 12.
FAM general secretary Datuk Hamidin Amin has cautioned players on the implications should they fail to practise professionalism when signing contracts.
“The procedures are there. It is clear but yet some claim to be unaware. This boils down to the attitude of certain officials and players.
“This is the first case brought to us. We could even suspend or fine the player but it is for the status committee to decide,” said Hamidin, who had previously said he expected several teams to seek FAM’s decision on players’ status.
Armed Forces’ Hairuddin Omar was another player involved in a team tussle as the Gladiators and Premier League side Felda United had both claimed his signature.
However, both teams reached an settlement which saw Forces release Farizal Harun and Shukor Adan to Felda before their contracts had expired this month.
