ROMPIN, Nov 17 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim wants the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to return the RM39,000 fine he paid as a fine for allegedly violating Article 88 of the association in February.

The former Perlis Football Association (PFA) president and Perlis Menteri Besar said the fine should be returned as the regulation has been repealed by the FAM.

On Feb 20, FAM imposed a 30-month suspension and RM39,000 fine on Shahidan for allegedly violating Article 88 after issuing statements against FAM without prior approval.

“I have been punished by FAM using Article 88 but now the regulation has been abolished,” he told reporters after opening a Malaysian Marine Enforcement Agency programme. When the Internal Security Act (ISA) was repealed, those detained under the ISA were given amnesty and released.

“Give me back my money, as I have pledged to donate the money to the orphanage. I do not want FAM to keep money that is meant for orphans,” said Shahidan who had also resigned from all his posts in the FAM committee.

On Aug 19, FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said individuals punished under Article 88 of FAM’s 2010-2014 statute cannot appeal for a refund of fine paid earlier.

He said the punishment imposed on individuals, including fines under Article 88 for criticising the FAM in the past, will remain even though the FAM had decided to amend the article.

Shahidan said he had filed for a claim after the FAM announced plans to amend Article 88 at the FAM Annual Congress on Aug 17.

“I was not informed of my actual position after the amendment and there were no news on whether I was saved from the suspension,” he said. — Bernama
