KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Malaysia missed the chance to add another gold medal at the 12th World Wushu Championships through the Men’s Jian Shu event tonight.
However, Okawa was awarded the gold medal after the jury in the jump division gave him higher points for movement.
“I don’t mind the jury decision as I did not expect to win a medal. The silver medal is good enough for me,” said 20 year-old Penangite.
The bronze medal went to Andrei Soloviev of Russia who collected 9.61 points.
Meanwhile, Ng Say Yoke of Malaysia only managed fourth place in the Men’s Gunshu event.
Jia Rui (Macau) took the gold medal with 9.67 points while Daisuke Ichikizaki (Japan) and Cho Seung-Jae (South Korea ) won the silver and bronze medals with 9.65 and 9.64 points respectively.
In the women’s Jian Shu event, another Malaysian, Phoon Eyin finished in fifth place.
The gold medal was won by Kan Wencong of China (9.72 points). Duong Thuy Vi of Vietnam (9.66 points) and Keiko Yamaguchi of Japan (9.65 points) won the silver and bronze medals respectively.
After two days of competition, the Malaysian squad won two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals.
