KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — Michelle Wie, a professional golfer from the United States, is determined to give her full commitment at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2013 tournament which begins Thursday.

“I’ll give my best and 110 per cent focus for this week... I want to finish strong, better than before and I will try harder,” she said at the meet-and-greet session with lady golfers from the United States here today.

To be held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in Bukit Kiara from Oct 10-13, the event offers total prize money of US$2 million (RM6.3 million).

The 24-year-old golfer, who will be making her third appearance at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, said she had decided not to worry about the other players as her ultimate goal was to win the championship.

“This is my third time in the championship. The climate plays a big part in any tournament here... but I’m used to it,” she said.

Wie, who turned professional in 2005, has two professional titles to her name and in 2006, she became the first female medallist in the US Open qualifying tournament at Turtle Bay, Hawaii, at the age of 16.

The LPGA event will see 10 sponsor invitees and 62 LPGA Tour players, including defending champion and world number one, Inbee Park of South Korea, vying for the title. — Bernama
