KUCHING, Oct 1 — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today denied local dailies' reports that Sarawak was also being investigated for allegations of match-fixing and bribery in their 6-1 win over Perak here on Sept 21.
FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said thus far the FAM had only received a report from the Perak Football Association (PAFA) with regards to possible elements of bribery involving the team, following their pathetic performance in their Malaysia Cup match against Sarawak.
“FAM wishes to clarify that the possibility of bribery involving the Sarawak team, as reported by a number of local dailies, was never discussed in the Integrity Committee meeting held in Putrajaya on Sunday,” he said in a statement here today.
The FAM Integrity Committee chairman Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat also said that there was no discussion held with regard to the matter.
Aseh said the committee will inform the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate elements of bribery, match-fixing or corruption when a report has been received.
Hamidin in the statement added that since what was reported in the media was not correct (misquoted), the matter need to be rectified by the respective media organisations to avoid any confusion. — Bernama
