KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Johor Darul Takzim (Johor DT) are on track to the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup after chalking up an easy 4-2 win over defending champions, Kelantan in first leg of the quarter-finals at Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium, Larkin last night.
The squad, under coach Azmi Mohamed, did not take long to open the score through a freekick by Jasazrin Jamaluddin in the fourth minute before national striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha made it 2-0 in the 20th minute.
Two minutes later, Kelantan midfielder Indra Putra Mahayuddin pulled one goal back for the champions before Safiq Rahim put the home team up with the third goal in the 39th minute.
In the second-half, defender Obinna Nwaneri scored Kelantan's second goal before Leonel Nunez slotted Johor DT's fourth goal in the 81st minute.
At the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore, the home team and Super League champions, Lions XII only managed a slim win over Armed Forces (ATM) with a solitary goal by defender Madhu Mohana in the 39th minute.
A clash between Premier League runners-up, Sime Darby FC and Premier League champions, Sarawak at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium ended in a scoreless draw.
In Kuantan, Pahang defeated Selangor PKNS FC 3-2 in another quarter-final match at Darul Makmur Stadium on Friday.
The second leg quarter-finals matches will be held on October 4 between ATM and Lions XII at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium and Selangor PKNS FC will meet Pahang at Shah Alam Stadium.
Johor DT will travel to Kota Baru for the second leg against Kelantan at the Sultan Muhammad Ke-IV Stadium while Sarawak and Sime Darby FC will meet at the State Stadium in Kuching a day later. — Bernama
