Indonesia’s rising star harbours hopes of upsetting Chong Wei
Indonesian rising badminton star Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka

GUANGZHOU, Aug 6 — On paper, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka’s name may not ring a bell to badminton pundits at the 2013 World Badminton Championships, but the young Indonesian hopes to throw the formbooks out of the courts when he takes on world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei in a second-round match at the Tianhe Gymnasium tomorrow.

Hayom Rumbaka, despite having lost all his six previous meetings against the Malaysian ace, remains confident of pulling off an upset in the World Championships, which started yesterday.

“Chong Wei is a very experienced player and is in a class of his own. But that does not mean I cannot pull off an upset win,” said Hayom Rumbaka.

“I have played against Chong Wei before and know what to expect. But I have my own strategy for tomorrow’s match,” said the 25-year-old, who advanced after beating Israel’s Misha Zilberman 21-15, 23-21.

Hayom Rumbaka said he played against Chong Wei in the Indonesian Open semifinals in June but lost 17-21, 15-21.

This time around it would be a different game altogether, he said. — Bernama
