Nicol David one match from World Games hat trick

KUALA LUMPUR, August 4 — Malaysian squash queen and world number one Datuk Nicol David is just a step away from clinching her third consecutive gold medal in the 2013 World Games held in Cali, Colombia.

In the semi-final match held at the Canasgordas Club yesterday, the 29-year-old Penangite (picture) easily dispatched of France’s Camille Serme 11-5, 11-5, 11-8 to set up a final clash with Natalie Grinham of Netherlands, according to the tournament’s website.

Natalie, the third seed, had shocked another Malaysian, Low Wee Wern, who was seeded second, 11-7, 2-11, 11-4, 11-4 in the other semi-final.

Malaysia’s sole representative in the men’s category, Ong Bee Hee, lost 4-11, 8-11, 4-11 to Peter Barker of England in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Nicol won the previous two gold medal in the quadriennial Games in Duisburg, Germany, in 2005 and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 2009. — Bernama
