Park wins Manulife in playoff

WATERLOO, July 15 — Park Hee-young birdied the third playoff hole to defeat Angela Stanford and capture the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic yesterday.

Park (picture) shot a closing six-under 65 to finish the tournament at 26-under-par 258, capturing her second career LPGA title.

Stanford fired a seven-under 64 yesterday.

Catriona Matthew (66) finished in third place at 23-under, while Meena Lee took fourth at three strokes further back at the Grey Silo Golf course. Karine Icher had sole possession of fifth at 19-under after a closing 63.

Kang Hae-ji and Choi Na-yeon shot matching nine-under 62s to join Stacy Lewis (64), Suzann Pettersen (66), Gerina Piller (67), Amy Yang (67) and Austin Ernst (67) at 18-under 266.

South Korea’s Park In-bee, who had won the last three tournaments entering this event, carded her second straight 68 to finish in a tie with Jessica Korda (65) for 14th place at 16-under. — AFP
